Miners fall to Pilots again on the road
Miners lose 3-2 in a game with exciting late action
The Mat-Su Miners had a rough day, dropping another on the road against the Glacier Pilots and losing another arm on the season. The Miners are now 7-6 and the Pilots were able to snap an eight game losing streak in league play, and are now 4-13.
Sam Houston RHP Collin Aloisio got the start and had a little trouble in the first letting up a run but quickly settled in after that. He tossed and struck out four, only allowing that one run before exiting early while warming up for the fifth. While walking off the field, he pointed to his right arm signaling his discomfort. Aloisio is surely done for the summer, and the Miners have lost their fifth arm that was on the opening day roster.
Nebraska RHP Cooper Grace was given time to warm up after the abrupt injury. He had a great day on the mound, facing the minimum through three with three strikeouts and had kept the Pilots to that one run.
Through this however, The Miners were being held hitless through seven by Pilots LHP Jack Jones and RHP Cody White. But they were able to push through in the eighth in the first three due up.
Alex Pearson pinch-hit to lead off, lining a single to right for their first knock. Right after, centerfielder Tyler Akers got a bunt down the first base line, his speed certainly forced a throwing error from the pitcher White and Shortstop Austin Park came through with a two RBI single to left giving the Miners a 2-1 lead.
Now with a fresh lead, Nebraska RHP Auden Pankonin was brought in looking for a two-inning save but ran into trouble. Following an effortless K to start off, a walk and back-to-back singles gave the Pilots a 3-2 lead.
Leftfielder Will Millard led off the ninth with a single, but the Miners weren't able to come through.
The Miners play at home again tonight vs the Anchorage Bucs, 6 P.M. AKDT. The Bucs were able to best them last time out at home 6-0, so the Miners are looking to bounce back against a Bucs team that's now won three in a row.
