Miners maul Glacier Pilots
Offensive implosion gives the miners an 11-run victory.
A four-hit, six-RBI day, including a grand-slam from Will Godfrey lifts the Miners over the Anchorage Glacier Pilots 14-3 Monday night at Mulcahy Stadium.
Every single starter for the Miners reached base and all but two starters scored a run. Both Godfrey and Tyler Akers scored four runs while four hitters had multi-hit games. The 14 runs scored sets a new single-game high this season for the Mat-Su Miners in league play as well at the 14 hits and 11 RBI. It was only the second game of the season where the Miners hit above .300 as a team. Mat-Su also set a single-game low for strikeouts with only one through all nine innings.
The Miners scored in six innings and put up a crooked number in four of them. Kanyon Millar recorded a two-hit performance, his first of the season, including an RBI single. Akers finished the game 1-1 with four runs scored, three stolen bases, two walks, a hit-by-pitch, and a triple. Austin Park added two more RBI's, good for his sixth on the season, which all have come in the past four games and four of those in the last three where he has been moved to the two spot in the lineup.
Kyle Chase got the start and the decison, making him 3-0 on the summer. In six innings he gave up one run on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Three of the five hits Chase gave up came on the first three batters he saw in the game. Auden Pankonin, Jonathan Anders, and Cooper Grace releived Chase in that order. Combined the trio surrendered two runs on four hits and combined for four strikeouts.
The Miners' offense looks to keep rolling for game two of three straight against the Glacier Pilots. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday night at Hermon Brothers Field. You can stream the game on the Mat-Su Miners YouTube.
