Miners take down Pilots for fourth straight victory
Mat-Su has won four in a row for the first time this season.
The Mat-Su Miners score seven runs on eight hits with 10 stolen bases for a 7-2 victory over the Anchorage Glacier Pilots Thursday night at Mulcahy Stadium.
The Miners win streak moves to four, their longest of the season, and puts them in a tie for first place with the Peninsula Oilers. Though, Mat-Su holds a better win percentage. This is also the fourth game in a row the Miners have scored seven or more runs. That makes 38 runs during this four-game stretch for the Miners, who have 87 total runs on the entire season.
Luke Hewes reached base in all five plate appearances, droving in two runs, with a towering solo home run to left field in the seventh, and a triple. Diesel Toth reached base three times in the game and finished the game with four of the 10 stolen bags for Mat-Su. The Miners now lead the ABL in stolen bases with 51.
Zach Bowman's two scoreless innings out of the pen get him the win. Jace Ziola put together his best start of the summer, striking out seven through five and allowing only two runs on four hits with two walks. Connor Mondey got a two inning save and gave up only two hits and tallied three strikeouts.
The Miners look to keep the momentum going on game two of their seven game road stretch. Next up is the third place Anchorage Bucs who are one game back of first. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Mulcahy Stadium. You can stream the game on the Mat-Su Miners YouTube.
